I have no idea where you are going with this.

If this is you talking about being proud you that you held your own. I am not about to say that you were perfect in handling it, but good for you for standing up for yourself.

A bit of advice though, if you want to go back to how you were as friends and just have fun goofing off together.

If you want nothing to do with her ignore this.

Give her time to cool off. If by chance she still is willing to talk to you but wants an apology. Keep in mind this maybe a self esteem and ego thing for her as well. She probably took your insults more personally than you realize, rightfully deserved or not, she may have felt that you overstepped your boundary while being unaware that she did herself.
Best you can really say is that "I am sorry that I hurt your feelings." Doing this doesn't mean you were incorrect or conceding, but that you did not want to hurt her. Wanted her to stop, but didn't want to hurt her. If she accepts state that civil rights is a touchy subject for both of you and it would be best if you two avoided talking about it. Don't bring up that her views are wrong, just that you don't want to talk with her about it. It seems like she is someone who can't discuss these things with out getting offended.

Again this is all just a suggestion. I do not know her, you do, I am just going with how I deal with fights.

There is a reason that "don't talk about religion or politics" is a saying. Because opposing moral views piss people straight the hell off. Obviously there's a time for it and it needs to be discussed, but it starts fights way faster than anything else. Just go to a youtube video that talks about religion or politics and see how fast the comments go from,"I have to disagree with you on that" to "Well screw you too"
