For everyone who hated her specifically for being female there was at least one person who supported her specifically for being female. At worst, she broke even. Take for example the public outrage about the big red box comments compared to the indifference to all the jokes about the male opposition leader's budgie smugglers...

Welcome to the public arena. People attack any and every percieved weakness. They attack male figures for male things. They attack female figures for female things. They attack male figures for female things. They attack female figures for male things. When you decide to become a public figure, you know like a PM, who claims to represent and serve the populace, it becomes open season. And so it should be.

If you're going to damsel, you're going to prove that the people who claim that women can't hang with the big boys are correct. It might gain you a quick burst of social support from the oppression olympics, but it will poison the well for every other woman who seeks to participate.

And to be clear - I don't think people should say any of what was said about Julia Gillard - but they shouldn't say it to anyone. Just because it has been said about her doesn't make her special. Thats the point.

You don't see people making sympathetic You Tube clips about male politicians that are slagged in the media - they just have to take it on the chin and get on with it.

This sort of video frustrates me because I'm sure Julia wouldn't like it herself, she was always tough enough I reckon. Probably doesn't need someone creating this sort of rubbish.

I know nothing about Australian politics, so my only exposure right now is this video.

It comes across to me that Julia Gillard is a child or a weak person who was "bullied" out of office, and requires an internet army of people to defend her because she can't defend herself.

I'm pretty sure that's not how she'd like to be portrayed.
