I've been going through the top posts in this sub and something happened one or two years ago finally made sense to me.
I'm a big guy. Like real big, thanks to the top notch genes and cold climate. So big I can barely fit in a bus seat.
One day I was minding my own business in a bus, some tiny lady comes and sits the only empty seat next to me. She then puts her purse between us instead of keeping it on her lap or putting it under the seat on the floor like me. Which resulted in a ~15cm gap between our knees. At this point I was grateful I don't have to touch some stranger like the two fat guys in the front row. Few stops passes and she decides I'm taking too much space even though her purse occupies almost half of her seat. I guess her solution would be me being smaller? Anyway I look at her, look at her purse, look at her crossed legs and the distance between us and I decide to ignore her. During the ride she tells me to stop spreading my legs every few stops. I just went on with my silly game on my phone and managed to get off the bus without any incident.
At that time I thought she was being unreasonable and little unstable. It made me feel uncomfortable and threatened. I was sure if I said anything she would find a way to elevate this situation into a shitstorm or possibly a lynch. I was unfamiliar with feminist oppression tactics thanks to a combination of limited media usage and sane friends. Now I see that the timeline fits perfectly and this all happened at the peak of the "manspreading" wave.
On a final note I want to thank to this community for showing me there is still hope for us.
tl;dr Years ago I was attacked by a lady who thought I shouldn't take up the space I needed to preserve my bones and balls. I just found out maspreading was a thing.
