Why does every girl out there seems to think enjoying travel is some super unique hobby that makes them special. I have literally never in my life met a woman who hates vacations.

The reasons she lists are so wrong. I'm guessing her dating experience is limited to the short flings she had with local boys, so she has no notion of what a long-term relationship entails.

"She'll keep you guessing": I don't want a girl who keeps me guessing. I want to settle down and have an ordinary life. We can have fun, but I don't want to keep guessing if we'll have a fight today, if you'll start a new expensive hobby next week, if you'll drag me into some weird hipster/new age restaurant tomorrow, or if you'll tell me you want an open relationship by next month. Let's just do something fun at home during the week after dinner, enjoy a hobby on Saturday, and visit a nice place on Sunday.
"She’s independent and strong": cool, get a career and contribute your half to our household income. Maybe we'll be able to afford a house one day.
"capable of exploring new and exotic locations": why would I want a girl who explores exotic locations? "Hi honey, where have you been? Oh you explored a lost Inca temple in the Peruvian jungle today, that's nice" - no guy ever.
"You won’t catch a girl who travels waiting around hopelessly for a call or a text". Any girl who isn't crazy doesn't wait all day in front of her phone waiting for a text. Something tells me you won't be waiting for my texts, but you'll be waiting for dick pics from your crush Ricardo from your vacation in Spain last year.
"She’s not into material things": guess we're not saving for a house after all.
"She’s passionate": that's just code for "she can't settle down".

By the way, swap the genders and you have an article titled "5 reasons to date a guy who plays Dungeons and Dragons. No offense to those who like the game, it's just that the arguments she offers work equally well.

She may be right and she may be wrong. Travel is what you make of it; there are those for whom the travel experience is a package tour involving mainly "cheap holidays in other people's misery" to quote the Sex Pistols, there are those who claim to be well-travelled but have only been on guided tours or visited the ports of dozens of different countries and those who have had real personal growth experiences.

For me, people who have the opportunity to travel, as most of us do in First World countries, and do not take it are allowing themselves to live lives that are far poorer than they otherwise could be.

More than a few of us are quick to condemn the type of woman whose interests do not go beyond the trivialities of consumerism and easy-to-digest media soundbites. We should not be so quick to write those who try to develop themselves beyond production and consumption.
