Gender is a continuum independent of sex, but they are correlated to some imprecise degree.

I thinks early human societies conditioned men to be strong and brave and cavalier and stoic because we are physically stronger, we were needed to be hunters and warriors. Women are physically weaker, so being shy and passive and emotional was more conducive to staying at home and raising kids.

I’d argue that nowadays these concerns are hardly relevant. We don’t need to hunt mammoths anymore. To be sure, testosterone does influence things, however there are exceptions and it isn’t the be all end all. I’m androgynous looking and acting even though I have massive testosterone (thought that could be due to androgen insensitivity syndrome).

I lean more towards nurture than nature, but no one knows the answer to this age old question for sure. I think as a society we need to move more towards experimentation and letting people be whoever they want to be.

It's too naive a question to be worth trying to answer sensibly - you're already presupposing the available options (masculine/feminine; biological/cultural) and so you've practically answered your own question before you've even had time to add the question mark at the end.
