How do you feel about the school system?!

I'm afraid I could write an entire thesis on everything wrong with the school system because part of my opinions on it come from personal experience. I don't know about a bias against boys, I think I got through the education system before all of that became a thing, but even to me it is becoming quite obvious that the feminist man hating ideology has had a huge influence on everything we went through as children even if it wasn't as prevalent back then in teaching as it is now.

I think what's been most disturbing is seeing all these leaks and recordings about exactly what goes on in schools and universities. Every time I hear just about the way boys especially in classes are treated and how men are treated in universities I've never been more glad to not go to university in my life.

For me though, it wasn't necessarily a blatantly gender based thing, but after studying the way education worked it was obvious that learning at the very least was geared towards girls. You seem to know about different types of learning and it is exactly as you say, even if students are lucky enough not to have to deal with man haters boys will very much struggle in the system set up in the west.

I highly recommend checking out at Ken Robinson, he's very good at explaining all of this just from a learning standpoint. I discovered just by taking a simple left/right brain psychology test for example that I'm mixed, for those who don't know what I mean by that is there are left brain thinkers and right brain thinkers, left brains are much better at logic based tasks etc. and right brain are very good at creative thinking.

Since I was mixed I looked that up, I'm right brain dominant and it turned out that one of the things right brain thinkers can do to help learn mathematics and so on is look at numbers in colour because they can recognise different colours and so on better than just a boring white background and black text.

Ever since I did that, I have actually become really good at programming. I got a night theme enabled on my compiler which makes all the numbers and programming look very pretty and I often enable the night theme when I'm dealing with cryptocurrency trading. All of a sudden I'm finding myself doing really good with mathematics and it's dramatically helped me.

It's really weird, but it does work, people try and point at this type of thing and claim it's 'autism' or whatever but honestly I think it's just that the education system is so stuck in it's way that they are incapable of adapting learning like this, I am not looking at algorithm's in C# like it's nothing and it's all just because of changing the way I look at numbers.

That to me is a main problem with the education system, even if there aren't feminists the system is definitely not geared towards varied thought processes which is why so many people are being failed by it all. You can bet there will be girls too that won't fit the mould who will inevitably end up struggling in such a system.

This is the test I took by the way, feel free to try it out, if you're somebody who struggled with maths when you're younger it could well be something as simple as either having a shitty education where the teachers just wouldn't try to fix anything ( Like me ) or it could be you're also fairly right brain dominant. Though depending on how I take the test it seems I get some quite varied results so it will probably be that I'm using a certain type of my brain more than others on a given day. I've been doing a lot of programming work recently so maybe that's why I got a different result this time I dunno.

Promise I'm not making any of this up :P

Public education serves a few different purposes for your kids. They may or may not get some great things out of it if they pay attention and/or apply themselves, depending on the school. But regardless, your kids will be exposed to this in public education regardless of how they apply themselves: * Being put int a babysitting building for a period of time designed to encourage 9-5 weekday jobs.

Being watched by an authority figure constantly. Compliance and dependence on authority by giving punishment for not seeking an authority for any and all problems.
Distrust for authority by giving punishment for seeking an authority figure for any and all problems.
Excessive punishment, especially for boys, minorities, mentally challenged kids, and people who stand out of the crowd.
Government propaganda being punished for merely questioning the validity of material or school methodologies.
Being punished for the actions of others, including being attacked, whether it was provoked or not.
Constantly being on a task they did not choose and do not benefit from, for the majority of the day.
Punishment for attempting to teach themselves anything useful off task, including in study hall.
Being indoctrinated by corporate lobbied textbooks into beleiving profitable superstitions about all aspects of life, especially diet, health.
Potential sexual exploitation that, if the charged faculty member is a woman or community leader, won’t be convicted.
Being indoctrinated into some degree of ideological beliefs lobbied into the curriculum by religious and political groups.
Being conditioned into an empty and depressing corporate environment.
Cult military recruitment. Pharmaseudical sales and salespersons attempting to sell you amphetamines to give to your children.
Not art or creativity. Extensive training in conformism, authority, groupthink, and compliance.
Community driven efforts with people on the ground attempting to recruit your children into various ideologies and factions without your knowledge, especially during any extracurricular activities.

I’m not saying get rid of it; nor am I saying to abolish it completely. But,

I am saying it’s current form is scary when you consider that’s what they are teaching kids. Especially this Zero Tolerance shit, which teaches them similar lessons as our completely backwards ass “”””criminal correctional”””” system.

The schools are horrible and the massive bias towards women is one of the problems.

Girls are not held accountable for their actions in school. There were numerous, very violent fights between girls at the school I went to and not a single on of the participants received any disciplinary action. I, a male, got into a fight once and both of us got suspended. The same happened for every male fight. The girls who verbally assaulted teachers got similar treatment.

I'd recommend the book by Christina Hoff Sommers titled "The War on Boys" because it explains the heavy bias against boys the school system has better than I can, on top of citing sources.

What type of learner are you?

A little off topic and at the risk of getting massively downvoted: there's actually no scientific evidence for "learning styles" (i.e, visual vs auditory vs kinesthetic). The only evidence people can seem to bring up is anecdotal, "well I know I'm a visual learner because I didn't understand a topic until I saw it presented visually..."

Not saying that boys and girls in school are exactly the same, boys tend to have a harder time with the "sit still for 8 hours and listen to lectures" type of teaching.

I'm glad I'm done with it, and I'm glad my son is done with it. If I could get away with not paying for it in my taxes to starve that fucker of funds and kill it off in its current incarnation, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

That's how I feel about the school system.

For me at least, I feel that the school system is not biased against boys, but girls can get away with a lot. For instance, there is a lot of drug use at my school, but the administration only focuses on the boys side of if, and not paying attention to the girls using drugs and smoking.

I felt there was very heavy gender bias throughout the entire system and this is something I felt long before coming to this sub (not just a retrospective "oh yea this must have been the reason").

I had some very equal and caring teachers that I did not feel a prick of bias from, others that I felt strong bias from, and others where I didn't feel it but friends in the administration later told be is very clear from complaints and grade distributions.

Some anecdotes (copy paste from another similar question):

Anecdotally this happened a lot through school to me. One time with a phys ed teacher. On both physical tests and written assignments the boys got 5-10% less on everything across the board. Girls got ~90% average and boys ~80%. This was really important for grades when applying to university. I had a science teacher that did similar things. She had a bit of a grudge against me too. I knew she did and asked my family to ask for a swap of teachers. "Too bad deal with it you're imagining it man up"

Fast forward, I didn't make the science programs in university. Later saw her at the mall and she taunted me saying "oh so did you get into the science program? No? That's too bad!" with a giant grin. Either way I still got myself a job not in those fields but anecdotally it happens.

I also had a teacher that gave me pretty poor marks but it was my graduating semester from university and didn't want to risk my job offer contesting the grade in case it went down. I was later told by a friend I made in the administration for the department that they've looked at his grade distributions and asian students get 10-15% less on average.

I have had multiple teachers that would show obvious bias towards girls in multiple ways. The discussions that we would have in class were typically very one-dimensional and almost exclusively opinion based, and I can vividly remember just how much I was stifled from speaking simply for having a different opinion (often which were supported by fact compared to the conjecture in class).

It's not all bad, though. If there is a high-achieving boy he will likely get similar if not identical treatment to girls, but things get dicey when discussing boys who won't necessarily pursue an academic career, and whether or not the school system is conducive to that lifestyle (hint: it's not)

Are you talking learning styles or learning preferences? Learning styles have been debunked, and learning preferences have not proven to improve learning.

Edit: should have specified VAK learning styles as indicated by OP.

I think that girls tend to gravitate towards the structures of school in the younger years while boys have a hard time sitting still, this seems to reverse somewhat in high school thougg.
