I don't get how a speed camera ticket turned into this. Are things different across the pond when it comes to speed cameras? In the U.S. you get caught by a camera they send the ticket to the person the plates are registered to. You pay the ticket or try to fight it. It doesn't go on the driving record of the person that owns the car (because they can't prove who was driving) and you remember that you shouldn't go over the limit in that area. Why the lies about who was behind the wheel at the time? And even if it does come up that it could have been you, simply say that you didn't realize that you were going that fast and move on with your life...

Yeah, over here you get "points" on your driving license. The more points you get, the closer you are to getting a ban from driving and you have to retake your test.

I've got a feeling (haven't read the article yet) that this woman got snapped, decided to appeal the fine rather than pay it to avoid getting said points, and then got jail time for "perverting the course of justice" which basically applies to everything from impeding an investigation to lying in court.

Super bullshit that her brother got more time though, considering he was upholding her lie.

She claimed she wasn’t driving when the speed camera caught her car, then doubled down on the lie despite evidence to the contrary. Hence the perverting the course of justice.

Oh I wasn't dismissing the pcj charge, just outlining the catchment area of legalese in case the terminology or application of it is different over there.

Again though, super bullshit that he got more time than her.

That's harsh. The cameras here (at least in the state of Iowa) are simply revenue generators the cities that have them (one camera location generated 18 million dollars for Des Moines one year). No increase in rates. And the fine is considered a civil violation.

It's no the ticket, its lying about it.

Shes getting 3 months for claiming it wasn't her. He's getting 10 months for claiming he did it, which is probably due to fraudulently filling out the papers.

God damn that's fucked up. UK is just filled with corruption and it's hate for males is over flowing. Normally the one who commits the crime gets the largest punishment and those who are elected officials are supposed to be held to a higher degree of ethics and morals than regular people which is why they are supposed to be held even more accountable. How's the UK so backwards?

[–]Deborgpontant 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“Diversity” apparently. I’ve gone for jobs in the UK that have stated at the bottom of the application that minorities will automatically be forwarded for consideration. Something is very wrong over there and I really don’t want to be around for the revolt of that one. Pissed off Brits are something else.
