It probably could make sense to change the language from "ruin" to "damage". Just like being sexually assaulted or raped can damage a person's life, but actually ruining the person's life is atypical.

Brett Kavanaugh, like Clarence Thomas, will forever be known as "accused attempted rapist, Brett Kavanaugh". Whether or not that ruins his life could be debated. Whether or not it damages his life is not debatable.

I think it remains to be seen, but Trump becoming president will end up being disastrous for him personally and economically. Kavanaugh I don’t know, but the presidency will take years off Trump’s already precarious life if he doesn’t simply die quickly in prison.
