Oh wow. My first time being featured here, I'm flattered.
Oddly enough I'm all for women being held accountable for their actions, it's a shame when they aren't held to the same standards as other adults (although this girl was not an adult).
But it's also useful (and not mutually exclusive) to look at problems from a population level. A lot of things had to happen for this to even be a possibility
It's a failing on her part that she didn't just have an abortion or put the baby up for adoption. It's a failure of society that a teenage girl was able to carry a secret baby to term & thought leaving it in a school bathroom was her best course of action.
If it makes you feel better, I think society has failed you too. Someone should have reached out to you & shown you some kindness before you became so isolated and bitter. Most of you only seem to find joy by sharing your pain with others, it's not fair for you to have been brought so low by this world.
Good luck! Try and find something positive to add to your life. It's hard work, but it will help. You might even feel good about yourself when you are trying to fall asleep.

Here's my reasoning why I posted it. Your intentions were good, and I absolutely agree with you that most likely society had a huge role in what happened. In fact, I don't disagree with a single thing you said. I mean, could you imagine what it must be like to not want anyone to find out you are pregnant so badly that you're willing to take another life? Also, I understand it could have been a stillborn, but as I understand it, there's still a chance it can be resuscitated. Anyway, you didn't mention the fact that the mother chose to do any of this and kind of implied it was completely society's fault. It's not, like you mentioned in this comment. However, you got top comment nonetheless by blaming society exclusively for the choices of the mother. That's the pussypass. I hope you can understand where my perspective is coming from without believing that we're just all mysogynists.

nah it's cool. By the standards of the day I am a misogynist also. I believe the pussy pass is real, common, harmful, unjust & sexist to both men and women. I was a victim of statutory rape & we know that gets a big pass (3 out of 4 men in prison for sex crimes report similar), Not taking it seriously is another way society is failing people.
but I don't know how useful consequences would be for situations like this. No one, including the mother actually wanted this particular outcome. I'm not opposed to her suffering some kind of consequence, but she was (probably) motivated by fear already, making teenage girls more scared probably won't help.
I still think society failed this girl. A lot of things went wrong before she got to the point where it made sense to give birth to a baby in a school bathroom & leave it on the floor. Everyone needs help or a positive intervention sometimes, this girl included.
The buck does stop with her, she made the choice, she did have an obligation to that child. But this is an old story & I've heard it told a bunch of times. In the long run, if you don't want to read about these stories again we are going to have to tweak some of the inputs. So many people would have wanted that baby, we just need to coordinate a little better to avoid sad outcomes like this, or make it easier to get an abortion, or easier to reach out to someone, or have people actually notice WTF is going on and intervene.
It is an insane situation, and that's what I was trying to illustrate. Not just that someone would try and deliver a secret baby by themselves in a public bathroom, but that they could. Had she disposed of the body no one would have known, and that blows my mind.
I don't think everyone here is a toxic hateful individual, but those people are disproportionately represented. A lot of reasonable people believe women are held to a lower standard than men, but they are scared to say so. It's mostly the really far out people who are willing to speak up, unfortunately they are rude dudes who speak with vitriol and contempt & are motivated by the hate in their hearts more than a sense of justice or fair play.

Absolutely retarded. Most students are in class for about an hour at a time. In my high school there was one bathroom that almost no one used because it was so far from the other classrooms that no one who used it would have time to get to class. In college a girl in the dorm behind mine gave birth over night in the bathroom and threw the baby out in the dumpster. It was only found because a few mattresses were discarded and needed to be removed by hand.

Also, even considering the fact she is a minor, legal precedent has had people as young as 13 tried as adults for violent crimes. Even if it was a stillborn, isnt there some sort of obligation to seek help since there's a chance it could be resuscitated? At the very least this is criminal negligence.
