Male, 22, enlisting in the Marines (reserves).

TL;DR: I'm a fuck up and I have zero discipline. Been tired of being pathetic for a decade and am hoping the environment of the military will help get my shit straight as quickly as possible and set me with a reliable, bullshit- and substance-free future. Questions at bottom of post.

Personal details: I grew up in a pretty weak and liberal environment. Nothing bad, good parents, just never really pushed by anyone and never needed to do much for myself (not at all rich or coddled, though). Always hated myself for being a pathetic little shit and couldn't figure out why I wasn't living up to my high ambitions and relatively impressive intelligence. Starting to see a new side to myself since deciding to enlist (the ethics of which I fought with myself over quite a bit and am now comfortable with). I know what I want long-term and short-term but I don't have the skills to do it.

Main issues: Complete lack of discipline, very weak planning skills, just a general stress/anxiety of constantly trying to make something coherent out of the fog of possible best options in my head but never actually getting anything the fuck done. I know discipline is my responsibility but it would be stupid to say that an environment that gives you no other option wouldn't help develop it. My goal is to develop the strongest ability to conduct myself and execute as effectively as possible throughout training. Leadership is also very important for me.

Right, so; What do you guys think I should be keeping my attention on throughout training in terms of my own psychological habits?

What should I practice or get a little used to beforehand?

Is there anything I should practice being aware of in others?

Anything you think I'm missing or being a bitch about?

.

Any input appreciated. Thanks for your time, boys.
