I'm sorry to be the guy that throws out the baby with the bath water. But nothing this woman claims should be taken factually. I tried to read one of her recent books despite knowing I would have a very different opinion. The whole thing was whiny rhetoric and unsubstansiated claims. Quick Google searches revealed that many things she says are completely factually false. For someone who claims to be an academic and belongs to multiple think tanks she can't cite a source for shit.

Epidemic of Campus Rape Is Simply Hallucinatory

I believe it

Can you give us some examples of her failings?

[–]patasaurusrex -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Well I tossed that book so giving specific examples is going to be impossible without me going and wasting another $20. She made several statements about Black Lives Matter, Cop Block, and other police accountability groups that there existed no proof of. Trust me I looked. Given that she failed to cite any references in either the footnotes or the end of the book I found myself searching on my own for proof to substanciate her claims. Even when she mentioned articles from the New York Times and other newspapers she gave no date or article title of said articles. There was no foot notes or reference section in any of the book because she provided absolutely no proof to all. The book was The War on Cops. She offered no solutions to solve any problems concerning race relations, police policy, and problems in the criminal justice system. Unless you count advocating draconian laws and policies that trample the 4th amendment and the bill of rights solutions.

I don't know enough about her to disagree with you, but you really didn't respond with anything useful to back up your own statements.

[–]patasaurusrex 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She makes claims with no references to back them up. The fuck you want me to do? Go buy the goddamn thing again, scan pages, take screen shots of non-existent articles, and link them here from imgur?

Yep. There's plenty of arguments that the campus rape "epidemic" is vastly overhyped but Breitbart is not a credible source.

“This idea that we’re living through an epidemic of campus rape is simply hallucinatory, although that’s being a little too gracious to it because, again, it is a deliberate concoction on the part of campus feminists and the Title IX bureaucracy,” Mac Donald, who is also a Manhattan Institute fellow and a contributing editor to City Journal, told House.

According to Mac Donald, the reality is much simpler: the effects of falsely assuming that men and women are the same. “What’s going on on college campuses is the nervous breakdown of sexual liberation with this drunken hookup culture that, it turns out, females don’t really enjoy as much as males do. No surprise there. Sexual liberation pretended males and females were identical in their desires for no strings attached casual sex,” she told House.

The #MeToo Movement also, according to Mac Donald, has links to the false assumptions of the campus left. “The #MeToo Movement has built upon the whole ideology of feminism. For sure there are real predators out there, particularly in the workplace where you have disparities, hierarchies of power. But, unsurprisingly, it has gone way beyond that, where you now have people that are bringing criminal charges against somebody that maybe made an unwanted gesture at a Christmas party,” she said.

The effect, as with identity politics and the supposed prevalence of racism and sexism in American society, is to feed into the “vicious cycle” of corrosion of meritocracy. “The real problem is it’s being leveraged into a redoubling of race and gender quotas throughout the economy as a response to this supposed male patriarchy,” Mac Donald told House.

Interesting. I mean most of this has been blatantly obvious to many for decades, but only a very few women took a stand on this, and the number has changed very little over the years. Sure, now we have Cassie Jaye, Karen S, and several others, but unless and until a majority of women stand up for what's right rather than what's to their advantage, things will just continue to get worse. I do not predict any changes in this regard, women, in general have no empathy for men in general, and they primarily look out for themselves, so laws that discriminate in women's favor are perceived as 'equality' and defended by that euphemism.
