Thousands of dads are left in shock as DIY paternity tests soar. Up to 30,000 tests are being performed every year, says Alphabiolabs. In the UK about 750,000 babies are born every year. Feminists want the test to be illegal without the written consent of the mother.

Mother-of-two, 40, falsely branded a neighbour a sex offender because he 'made too much noise building a guinea pig hutch in his garden'. It seems for many women if they do not get their way they make a false sex allegation knowing a man is not protected by the law.

Marriage is a raw deal in this day and age.

In the usa as in many countries, men should never ever get married.

There was a time and place for alimony, and it is long past. 75 years ago when very few women worked outside the home after marriage... sure. A 44 year old divorced woman in like 1938 would have been impoverished, especially if she had 4 or 5 children. But, as women have transitioned into the workforce there is much less need.

Maybe a stay at home parent (mom or dad) should get a year or two of spousal support while they transition into the workforce. I could see that as fair, especially in situations where they had been out of the workforce for several years.

Nobody is entitled to a standard of living. Sure, seeing kids fed and clothed no matter where they live is key. But, 50/50 custody should be the norm. No child support. If one parent struggles, a good parent should say hey- let me send a couple bags of groceries back with our son. I'll pay for our daughter's tennis shoes etc. Taking care of their wellbeing is more important than spiting an ex. And seeing adults act like adults will be a good role model for the kids.

For my husband and I, marriage is an important part of our faith. A sacrament. But, we didn't jump into it. We took most of a decade building a friendship, dating, falling in love, and going through premarital counseling. Catholics get one shot. Divorce is a no go for us. And we treated marriage as a serious, important, and binding choice. Full disclosure. Of his student loan debt. My potential infertility. Food allergies. Past misdeeds. And so on.

I have watched friends divorce after whirlwind courtships of a few months leading to quick marriages. After finding out their wife was cheating. Their husband had 2 kids he never told her about.

I'm not going to support the don't get married part of your post. I'd say to be careful, don't rush into it. Consider, communicate, meditate, and think on it for a long, long time. Love and lust make us do things that we regret or don't fully think through.

But I absolutely agree that our courts are screwed up when it comes to men and custody and in divorces.

Absolutely understood. I respect your choice, 100%. I think that you are right- few people see marriage the same way as we do. Especially the legal system.

And yes. Marriage is a huge risk, which makes me sad. We are so happy, and I'd love to see everyone have that happiness as well. And for most people now, marriage is more secular. That is fine. I love my agnostic, atheist, non religious brothers and sisters. I respect their choices. I respect other faiths and what marriage means.

But, as we have changed, postmodern life has changed our views, feminism has changed our views. And, you are right. Men get screwed. Completely screwed. And that is so damn wrong.

It makes me think that marriage is becoming a relic. And that is so sad. But, the whole equality and partnership bit ends as soon as things get mean in a divorce. The courts, in "empowering" women after a divorce by providing for them demean them. If feminism was about "women can work and be independent" why the hell should we keep archaic laws that do the opposite.

I think my sister and one of my brothers never plan to marry. Happy to date, have a partner. Neither want kids. That is fine. But my other brother feels a lot like you. And, he views marriage like me. There are like...7 women between 18 and 30 at our church. One is a nun. Two are married. Tiny dating pool. Maybe there is a devout Catholic dating app?

I hope someday that you, him, and other guys find the right lady. One who makes you happy, isn't out to screw you over, is kind and level headed. And I will keep adding my voice to the chorus asking for legal reform for custody, father's rights etc.

Just to ask,Is it better for a Male to Buy an Egg and do surrogacy to have kids than to marry a woman?

"never get married" Canadian over here. Wish me luck lads.

I don't live in the US. My boyfriend and me researched marriage, and there is literally zero benefit in it for either of us here.

If we marry and one of us loses their job, the other party will be forced to pay for them.If we're not married, the state pays for all basic living expenses if one of us loses their job, as it should be in a social welfare state.

So yeah, that was not a hard decision, but I was very surprised to not come across a single benefit. Tax breaks? Only works if one partner makes much less than the other. Right to visit partner in ICU and make decisions in their place? Patient's provision. Since neither of us wants children, custody for an unmarried father is no issue either.

"Never get married", OK. Keep practising that one.

[–]furchfur[S] 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

With the current laws in western culture and the way some women use the biased court system it is not rational for a man to get married. Given that appox 50% of all marriages end in divorce, marriage and children is a high risk game for men.

[–]furchfur[S] 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I will keep stating this.

There is a lot that could be done to make marriage better but all the proposals have been deemed to be anti female so none have been brought into law. Many common sense proposals have been made:

Have joint custody as the norm after a divorce.

Put in prison parents who lie about domestic violence or abuse to get custody

Put in prison parents who frustrate or stop the other parent seeing the children.

End life long alimoney

Re-educate judges to ensure 50% of contested child custody cases go to the father.

Stop the idea that a woman's lifestyle must be maintained at the same level after a divorce.

Etc Etc.

In the meantime do not get married, do not have children.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic.

[–]superzepto 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, seriously. Don't get married. Enjoy living and dying alone.

You understand it's possible to have a long-term romantic relationship without getting married, right?
