If they did a mirror-image film with female characters it would be useful to compare the way it would be received. Aside from the objectification...

Something that's played down in both films is that the male characters are in pretty vulnerable places financially. This would probably be played up for sympathy were they female.

There's also a "worship your clients like they are goddesses" vibe that would be viewed as problematic at best were the genders flipped.

In short, they'd have to make it an empowerment story, toss in a number of toxic male characters to reassure us that the industry has a dark side, and one "good guy" so we know that not all men suck.

I don't like this guy. Not personally but his movie (never saw it) probably popularized male stripping and that "Objectiying men is good trend. But male strippers are not protected by anyone. They get touched, groped and harmed by women who will never face consequences.
