When a Professor with a Philosophy degree and sociology work in their resume is trying to pass off a scholarly work on a STEM field, that right off the bat should invalidate the work.

I honestly tried to take the abstract seriously, and her argument basically boils down to "carbon fiber is a tool of the patriarchy because men make and use it", to which I'd naturally respond "well, men went into STEM fields to invent it, to manufacture it, to build with it, and to use it; all a woman would have to do for it to be the same is TRY, but very few if any ever seem to".

This woman apparently has 214 papers associated with her, and just going over a couple titles, my guess is that most of these papers boil down to the same methodology: she encounters something in her life that confuses or annoys her, or demonstrates that her entire career is busywork; instead of bothering to learn more about it, or be more understanding, she gets triggered and writes a paper about it. Basically, if for some reason she goes to whatever pretentious coffee shop she frequents tomorrow morning, and she burns herself because she wasn't paying attention to the lid being loose, she's going to spend the next week writing a paper about how polyethylene is a tool of the Patriarchy, and they specifically engineered the lids to hurt women, because all men are rapists and batterers.

This woman is the reason why academia will be a dead end in 10 years, and why if you're a man and are able, either blow through a STEM degree now while there's time, or just go to a trade school and learn a craft that'll see you set for life without worry because no woman's going to raise a hammer or cut with a saw if her life depends on it.

A couple of friends of mine have carbon fiber bikes. One is a marathon cyclist. The other a trainer for a rugby team. Both of them are women, by the way. The marathon rider is a thin Vietnamese woman who doesn't top five feet tall. She loves that she can toss the bike around with hardly any effort.

It's basically attacking men for getting prosthetics made of carbon fiber because it has a masculine association. Basically carbon fiber is seen as a kind of masculinizing material that becomes part of how the man getting the prosthetic feels about himself. So she's making an argument turning that into a problem because of literally one guy (Oscar Pistorius), out of however many tens or hundreds of thousands that have a prosthetic and had their life and those of their partners and relatives hugely improved.

I mean, I think carbon fiber does have a masculine association because it's used for a lot of tools men use that need to be strong and light, which men do because we literally do almost all the physical labor and perform all the most visible important roles where carbon fiber is used for masculine things. Only a feminist that presumes masculinity is inherently bad could turn something like prosthetics giving people back their lives into a bad thing because of it though. Men getting prosthetics made of super useful materials like carbon fiber run the risk of *GASP* feeling better about themselves as a man.
