Why do feminists discuss the idea of imposter syndrome? They have literally created it. Entire industries are filled with women who have been artifically hired/promoted/overpaid, simply due to their junk. Most will still claim they are "discriminated against" LOL the rest will suffer imposter syndrm

Imagine being a female professor who broke gender barriers to inspire the next gen of women that they are capable of doing it, only to witness this farce.

The worst part about the concept of male privilege is how you can't tell whether your achievements are of your own merit or not. All this scheme would do is just enforce imposter syndrome in women.

Meme yes, but worthy subject. As discussed university shuts down any male applicants for 6 months .... and even then if they hire a man they must explain why. BTW this is extremely common all throughout academia

I would urge everyone to consider the possibility that this isn't "embarrassing" for a lot of these women at all. It's the point.

You are presuming they feel the way they feel because of some philosophical position about equality, when a great huge amount of them (based on the near zero backlash to these sorts of things) are simply using it as a grift to get ahead.

They don't care that Biden promised to diversity hire his VP; all they care about is that they get it, not about how.

The difference matters, because it informs how you approach these issues when discussing with feminists. It is easy to presume good faith where none may exist.

While I oppose sexist policies, the tweet jumps to a conclusion the policy doesn't support. Just because a women is picked under it doesn't mean her research record was mediocre, nor that she supports the policy. She might not benefit from it at all, as any woman may have been the best candidate.

The policy creates many problems, but it doesn't mean any or every woman picked under it doesn't deserve the job.

What if I told you that "underqualified" is bullshit because in the current state of the university one of the important competencies they are selecting on is the ability to bring a diverse set of viewpoints into the faculty, particularly regarding gender?

The UK's biggest ad agency went through this a year or two ago. They needed to go more global and to serve the increasingly diverse UK market. They realised they were a bunch of white male rich upper class English people hired straight out of not just universities, but elite universities. And they needed to change fast because they were incompetent to serve their market. They changed, at the cost of many cupfuls of white male upper class tears.

Police forces are another example. They need to hire people from the minority communities they serve, and competence in cultures the force lacks competence in is a key attribute they seek. The claim that "the best applicants are being bypassed" is based on wilful ignorance about what "best" means.
