So my aunt and uncle are about to deliver a baby sometime this month. They don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl and will find out after delivery. We all live in the US. You may have seen a previous post from me here recently where I said I expressed to my parents that I was upset for being circumcised as an infant and they said to me that being circumcised was the healthy option because that’s what the doctors and studies from places like Mayo Clinic say. Well, I didn’t explain the backstory to how that conversation started. Before that, I texted my aunt about the new baby and it was a pleasant conversation. I was planning to give her links to resources explaining why circumcision is unnecessary and harmful on the chance that it is a boy. So I asked by text “Curious question. Have you and (my uncle’s name) discussed whether the baby would keep his foreskin or go through circumcision if it’s a boy?” I didn’t want to sound like I was trying to force them into a decision. I was awaiting a response and was planning to send some links or not depending on the reply. Instead of responding to me, she called my parents who I live with. I am 22 so I don’t know why she had to tell them instead of just replying to me with even something like “That’s private”. Kinda gave off the feeling like she doesn’t think of me as an adult. So now I don’t know what to do if it’s a boy. I know my entire family thinks that circumcision is a good and necessary thing so they will probably circumcise it if it’s a boy. I was trying to be proactive and give out resources so they can make a more informed decision early. I tried to help but that just led to my parents explaining to me that circumcision is good. So I have two questions.

  1. Should I just not care and let them circumcise it if it’s a boy? Is it even my place to try to give more resources to help make a decision?

  2. If I do still try to send resources, how? I figured I would probably wait until they deliver to see what gender it is. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think circumcision happens on the day of delivery. So that would mean a few days would be left if that were the case. My aunt would probably look at the resources laying on her hospital bed if I sent them. But if I sent them, how would I do it without her telling my parents that I sent them? I don’t want more pro-circumcision lectures. Also I’m 99% sure my uncle is circumcised so this could start a whole thing as well with him.

I just want to do the right thing for my new cousin. Please help.
