What impacts would mandatory paternity testing at birth have on society and families? Paternity testing seems fairly logical for a few reasons. The women sees the child come out of her womb so she KNOWS it's obviously hers. Men, for all intent and purposes, have no way of knowing 100% of the child is theirs unless their is a DNA test.

There always seems to be this matter of "trust" that comes up (not trusting the woman) but I feel that is irrational. It is not a matter of trust, it's the luxury of knowing the child is yours (which the woman experiences naturally). And there is a lot more to lose for a male eg. wasting 18 years of your life and hundreds of thousands of dollars raising a child that is not yours.

By creating a mandatory DNA test at birth that becomes routine, it seems like it would solve problems with a low effort procedure - unless you have something to hide.

But it seems like there could be a detrimental impact if 10% of men are truly raising kids that are not theirs and they discover this. For one, families would erode. This would cause rises in divorce and single parent house holds. There will also likely be a rise in government assistance for whoever is taking care of the child alone - which effects everyone's taxes etc...

But who's to say that men should raise children that aren't theirs for the benefit of society? Why would they carry the burden through ignorance? Essentially, what would be the fallout of this mandatory testing, if any?
