Neuroplasticity should not be discredited though. The reason many men who were circumcised at birth who notice little to no ill effects of being circumcised would vastly differ from those men who had a circumcision performed later in life.

The brian is incredibly elastic in the early years of life, far more so then in later years. This is why although countless nerve endings are removed the effects of it are not correlated as one would expect. Even among men who had circumcision as adults do not report a loss of sensation adequate to the amount of nerve endings removed.

This is where "It's very unlikely that cutting off thousands of nerve endings would result in zero decrease in sensation" is both true and false. If the brain recognizes trauma it will attempt to rewire itself to preserve its ability to react to stimuli. Phantom limbs are the loss of an entire appendage and yet the person afflicted with the loss is still recognizing stimulus that should not exist; yet does. If the brain is able to provide sensations for an entire missing limb, then why is it out of the realm of possibility that the foreskin wouldn't be as well?

I'm not arguing that circumcision is non invasive nor that it has no impact on sensitivity of the penis. Rather that the loss of nerve endings isn't a simple point of contention that one should use as a basis for arguing against circumcision. You'll find an overwhelming amount of circumcised men who note how pleasurable stimulus of his penis is, the thought that he's "missing sensation" will never compute. Just like telling that same man he's missing out on the female orgasm; his point of reference and those suggesting otherwise are incompatible.

Studies like this will never change public perception, less so among men who are circumcised themselves. The human body is an incredible machine and if circumcision was as detrimental to penile sensation as many argue then the practice would have died soon after it began.
