I have a feeling that even if it was between a well qualified man and a mediocre woman they would still take the woman... They are so desperate to show that they're inclusive

We need more women in lots of sectors; logging, mining, utilities, waste. Not much noise from middle class feminists here.

I work for a fortune 500 company in engineering. My experience is that in lower or entry level positions, they will err on the side of woman. But when the position is crucial to company success, they will hire based on merit 100%

My advice is to focus on making yourself the best employee possible. Not all companies are like that

I keep thinking about how to respond to this and aside from programming I think on a professional level it entirely depends on what is going on in each specialisation because of course let's be real if it's something that's very physically demanding and difficult the types of activists who infest these careers normally aren't going to touch it with a ten foot pole.

I can at least comment on tech generally and yes it absolutely will be a problem because of how much feminism has spread in tech companies and they're absolutely desperate to hire women even if it's obvious the women don't care about the position or aren't really qualified.

It definitely depends though on the career I would say, their might be fields that aren't as bad and some that are worse. This is something that you should be rightly interested in though, if you're going to devote yourself to a career path you need to inform yourself on the state of that industry and whether or not you'll even get work.

STEM will take any woman they can get. Such is the desire to appear not sexist. As a man, you have to try 2x as hard to stand out. You need to beat all women and then the best of the men. GL.

I’m an engineer in my 40’s so take this with a grain of salt since I might have some bias. There’s a lot of demand for STEM in general and very few qualified females. My company has 40 or 50 developers who are under 30 years old, and only 2 of them are female one of whom was brought in on a visa from China. Sure it’s possible that you may one day lose out to an equally qualified female in a job interview or a college admission for no other reason than gender, but there are plenty of opportunities out there.

Highly probable but I think that it will also depend on what college you’re going to, and where you stand in the case of this happening. But in the end they’re all businesses I suppose, they’d do it anyways since it looks good on them. That’s essentially just a marketing strategy. I’m conflicted on the topic since it’s pushing others down a little to benefit someone who may have not otherwise had the chance, but it doesn’t make it ok to do.

If you make yourself invaluable and best in your field your gender will not matter.

But yes, men at the more mediocre level are discriminated against.

If you're only going to be average at STEM, pick something else.

I had no help, no mentor, all the scholarships banned men, and throughout my life saw anti-male discrimination against men in both school and the workforce. Luckily in my youth I joined a local club that did STEM and asked non-stop questions until I knew enough to continue on my own. Within 5 years I had a great STEM job. I am self-taught skills that no university teaches, so no woman (and few men) could ever compete with me in the workforce. Good luck!

Well, between a man and a woman for any low level job, people would often choose a woman if only for the fact that it would attract more custommers, so if we want to make it, we needed a job with a strong skill related barrer to entry. We still do.

Right now i heard accounting is still interesting as it is view as boring by a lot of women.
