Wow. The amount of YTA replies! I bet they’d condone tipping her even more for dressing as such.

IMO part of the restaurant service is visual appearance, so if this waitress couldn’t be bothered to wear company attire, then why should I be bothered to tip? Let alone tip 20%!

OP should come to the UK, where they get paid even less and tips are never required, unless for extraordinary service.

Tipping is nothing more than an American (yes, American) social custom that allows restaurants to pay waiters below minimum wage. It's BS that makes diners and employees uncomfortable to save the owners a couple dollars an hour.

There's no good way to do it. Just less uncomfortable ways.

Dress wouldn't factor in my tipping decision unless she was filthy. Maybe talk to the manager if it bothers you
