I've never seen any of the women in my family get into physical fights, even minor. My mom said she used to fight with her sister when they were teenagers but that's the only example I can think of.

I have two brothers and they fought all the time, from the time they were little kids. My oldest brother and my dad got into several physical fights too.

Men hit women, women hit children is how it generally goes. not having been raised in the juggalo class I never saw any violence between adults in my home, just my mom smacking me

Sharp nails? Most people keep short nails. If you use them to fight they'll probably break. Being generally bigger and stronger is way more of an advantage. Women know they're at a disadvantage, hence they tend to pick less physical fights. (Of course, when it's between an adult and child, or even siblings with a large enough age gap, then that doesn't really matter.)

There's a persistent idea that DV is a gendered issue, it is not at all. The dv rate for women is 1 in 3, for men it's 1 in 4. The difference comes in severity, but that's an artifact of men having a biological advantage. If a man hits a woman she's more likely to bruise than the other way around. However a hit from a woman still hurts physically, and emotionally. We also know that men are less likely to report female partners as abusers. DV amongst lesbian couples is higher than any other group. There's also the troubling data point of who's most likely to kill children, its women. Even when you adjust for things like marital status, and who spends more time with the child. When it comes to killing children it's usually the mom ( there is a socioeconomic component that has a positive corellation )What we have isn't a gendered problem, we have a violence issue that is endemic to American culture at every level.

I've noticed another phenomenon that I think needs a lot more study. Mother to daughter abuse, we talk about daddy issues, when the real damage that I've noticed comes from mom's. There also seems to be a cultural component as well. Growing up in black household , there was a reverential treatment of the mother role, this was earned because by in large Mothers were loved because they respected you, and were nurturing. I've seen this same phenomenon across other minority groups, fighting your mom is unheard of. In white families that's not the case. It's not rare at all, most of the white women I know have been in a physical fight that was started by there mother. Then there's the emotional abuse, and disdain that is displayed. I think there's something baked into WASP culture. Perhaps it's an extension of seeing all women as competition innately manifesting itself against daughters. Seeing the promise of youth, juxtaposed against the failures of the mom's life? Seeing the loving interaction of a father to his daughter, while simultaneously having a procedural level of emotion with his spouse? I'm not sure what the issue, or answer is but we need to figure it out because it's severely damaging.
