Based on my recent experience, I'd say the answer is NO.

Sure, people will say that "Anybody should be able to ask for help if their life really is on the line, but in reality, that's not how it works. People feel uncomfortable when they see someone in need. Worse still, many are disgusted, so society seems to cast such men out, leaving them to die out of sight, out of mind.

I'd know. As some of you are already aware, I'm dying of intestinal failure, but god help me whenever I, or anyone in my family asks for help. We're looked upon like a social pariah. Not because we've done anything particularly wrong, but rather because the mere existence of someone in need makes others rather get rid of the lot of us.

Have any of you experienced this from society? Family? Work? Friends?
