I am trying to get away from my alcoholic spouse of 10 years. I still regret I didn't take her up on her offer of divorce 3 years back when I moved to a new state and she didn't want to move with me. I begged her to move. It's been downhill since.

Finally, today I reached out to a lawyer. My goal is to have a plan set in motion by the end of this year and a divorce filed before April 2023.

We don't have kids or a house to fight over, but I do have a very high-paying job which I think will motivate her to come after me for big alimony.

I considered divorce before, but I was too afraid because I didn't make enough money and was not sure how I could support myself I also have a great relationship with her family and didn't want to disappoint them. I wonder why I decided to sacrifice my happiness for others.

But being here has made me realize I need to find my happiness and divorce is the only way to do it.

I hope once I file the paperwork it might be her rock bottom and she will sober up. No matter what happens , i will not go back. I need to find my happiness and someone who is willing to be my equal partner and share all the wonders life has to offer.

Thank you for listening.

I live in Illinois.
