I think a lack of support is a large reason. Most of the men I know never completed college. Before my transition, I was dealing with severe depression and PTSD from childhood abuse that hobbled by ability to learn. I never had the support around me to continue.

College can be exceedingly exhausting when you're trying to cope with trauma. We're pressured to finish college at a certain age so we can enter into the workforce. There's so much pressure to get a degree so you won't be destitute that it can cause you to buckle under it. So I didn't complete.

I have tried to go back but it's the same reason I stopped before: no support. I have to work continuously to survive , so that doesn't give me the space to finish. I wish some reforms could happen to college

Not sure but I'm sceptical of two explanations. 1) That education has become too "feminised" and a return to more competition and testing is what boys need. That conveniently suits too many right-wing agendas. 2) That boys are distracted by co-ed spaces. This plays into the hands of social conservatives who would bring back segregation. Perhaps there's something in how boys are less sure of the roles their education is socialising them for, whilst girls are applauded for aspiring to be future "girl-bosses"? A generation or two ago, working class education steered boys to the blue collar jobs that have been lost to de-industralisation.
