Hi gents.

This is just a funny headline to get us started.

I noticed while looking for support online that there's not a great many men talking about this topic. Becoming a dad. Finding out your girlfriend/wife is pregnant. I'm looking for support.

Have you made experiences with this? Are you a dad? Did you decide to abort the child you were about to have?

My partner is in her early 30s. I'm 5 years younger. Had always planned to have a child from 30. Once settled, once I have a home and a car and you know... maybe a dog.

Life never comes as you planned it. Unless you're Elon Musk of course, who can predict a great many things. And also be wrong about a great many. Anyways. We'd discussed to abort in case the situation came to be, of course. She was so happy when she found out. Tears of fear and happiness at the same time as she sobbed in my arms. And here we are, men, the side-actors when it comes to children.

Yet it affects us all the same. (I presume?) I'm no traditionalist, I want my partner to be able to work, be creative, let her life energy flow. At the same time, I'm an entrepreneur at heart (not on paper), full of dreams and wishes as well.

As I set out to start my first company, I met so many men telling me something along the lines of: "Wow! It's so great you are starting your own business. I always wanted to, but was too scared. Now I'm a dad and I just can't take the risk anymore."

My dad was about my age, 28, when he had me. With a wife 10 years his senior. I'm scared of repeating history. They're still married, I begged them to separate for years after he had an affair for 5.

I feel ready, have so much support form my network and friends. Yet the fear of becoming a dad is real, and must be something so many of you went through. I know, men don't talk about emotions. One thing I'd like to change.

So give me your best, worst, advise. Some empathy or a plain "get over it". Love,

K.
