I'm surprised that a victim compensation scheme would consider paying out to someone who refuses to cooperate with the authorities to get a conviction.

that article was excrutiating to try to read, and I eventually gave up.

the author used the "Jennifer Gries" story as a premise to kick off several OTHER wandering points she really wanted to discuss, then would eventually (accidentallly?) come back to Gries briefly, and then shoot off on another tangent.

If you want to read about Jennifer Gries, THIS is not the article to read.
