The DailyMail article that this article cites has more information. It actually has screenshots of the documents filed in court. (It doesn’t paint her in any better light, just an opportunity to read her ex’s accusations in his own words)

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11934223/Allegations-Democrat-Katie-Porters-abusive-marriage-resurface.html

What a massive disappointment. I’ve been impressed with how she holds corporations accountable in those House hearings, so it’s pretty depressing and disgusting to see that she’s an abuser. Though, looking back on how she speaks in those hearings, it’s not hard to imagine that behavior continuing in the home and marriage as well…

She’s as much of an abuser as Johnny depp. Both accused, neither convicted.

[–]PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS 17 points18 points19 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Well you can see evidence from both, and Johnny was pretty thoroughly vindicated in the trial, so he's had his day in court. I went ahead and read the article, and it looks like it's just abusive all around, with the husband being more of a victim.

Since the system is set up to favor women, the slightest thing can tip the scales. It's all allegation right now, but it paints a picture.

You spelled Amber Heard wrong

[–]wanderlust_12[S] 38 points39 points40 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Since it’s a woman politician being abusive towards a man, this will not be discussed by MSM and will be swept under the rug.

[–]ipwr85 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same with New Mexico governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

[–]morphoyle 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Bullshit. It's because she has the correct letter next to her name. Do you really think NBC or CBS wouldn't (and hasn't) pounced at the chance to report all kinds of nasty allegations about the women in the other party? If not, you aren't reading or watching MSM.

[–]TheNerdWonder 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

How did that letter fair for Andrew Cuomo, Bill Clinton, Al Franken, Aaron Coleman, Antonio Villaraigosa, John Edwards, or Anthony Weiner? Despite being Democrats, every major and supposedly "liberal" mainstream media outlet routinely reported on allegations that those folks did something inappropriate towards a woman that either involved sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, or extramarital affairs.

The letter has nothing to do with it. There is no double standard on a party basis, even though I'm sure the people on r/conservative have duped you into thinking otherwise. It's explicitly just that they're the wrong gender and can't get away with it as men like women can which the right wing echo chamber likes to ignore because they can't fathom that not everything is a partisan issue where only Democrats are corrupt, corporate media is somehow leftist, get away with everything (Chicago political history alone disproves that but conservatives tends to loathe historical facts), and conservatives/Republicans never do anything wrong when they do.

[–]morphoyle 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ok grandpa. Take your meds then tell me that the media treats republican women the same as democrat women. Totally missed the point.

[–]TheNerdWonder -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

But that's not what you implied. You implied that party label, regardless of gender is why Porter is somehow getting away with this when you have a media outlet reporting on her. If your argument is now that Democratic women are somehow now held to a different standard as you claim then tell me what happened to a Democratic Congresswoman like Katie Hill after it was found out that she sexually exploited an intern in violation of House ethics rules. What media outlets covered her? How'd that letter protect her from the media that extensively covered what happened and how many covered it? All of them, including the CORPORATE ones you right-wing boomers think are somehow leftist.

Again, it's not about the letter and I'm not on meds. I just am not an easy mark for indoctrination like you seem to be and can make the connection that Democrats of both genders suck and have their depravities but aren't the ones most commonly being pigs like Republicans of both genders do. One is bad and the other is 50 degrees of worse. You just don't like that your side is the one being covered instead of exclusively the one you don't like.

[–]morphoyle 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dude, my parents are boomers. You have no idea what you are talking about. The majority of corporate media has a well known left wing bias. To use your example of Katie Hill, CNN talking heads have happily urged her to run again. They covered the story the first time, but their on-air opinion pieces on it were morally repugnant. They also welcomed back Jeff Toobin, so I shouldn't expect much.

But sure, keep on with that "reality has a left wing bias" mindset. It's working out so well for everyone.

That last paragraph you wrote has me laughing. Yelling about how you're a free thinker is exactly what an npc would do.

This has been reported by FOX, daily news, CBS, NBC and most other outlets. But I don’t believe anyone is running commercials yet. Wait until election time.

What the actual fuck. Such a massive disappointment

Many women are headaches.

[–]aknabi 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s not abuse… it’s men being afraid of a “strong woman”

[–]ERiC_693 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Poor woman, wonder what he did to ask for that...

[–]r2o_abile 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm super disappointed. She seemed like a genuine Congresswoman.

[–]TheNerdWonder 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Meh. She's overrated. Always was. She's basically the Democratic version of Marjorie Taylor Greene. Both are loud, obnoxious, and love cameras more than doing their actual jobs as members of Congress.

The only difference is that one isn't an antisemite who is pretty much the future of the conservative movement and gets away with being a violent nut job.
