One of the hot topics among feminists, especially American feminists, is "male violence." I am not from the United States and have never visited, but the gist of it seems to be they believe societies are necessarily made violent by the actions of men.

Well, let's take a look at the numbers.

The United States' murder rate is 4.96/100,000. That is certainly high. Now, according to the FBI, men commit murder at a rate nearly 10 times higher than women. Looking at the data on Page 12 of this report, 11.2% of homicides in the US with a known perpetrator are committed by women, although this varies by year. Again, this would mean that yes, men commit the overwhelming majority of homicides.

But where things get confusing for me is why they claim this is some sort of victory for women in America, or why this is supposed to make American women look peaceful. This puts the rate of homicide with female perpetrators (4.96 * .112) at .56/100,000. It also means that American women commit 1,816 of the 16,214 nationwide murders per year.

After scrolling down for a while, I noticed that the murder rate with female offenders alone exceeds the overall homicide rates in a variety of countries, including my home country. In Japan, for example, the murder rate is .26 overall, which means that American women are twice as likely to commit murder as men and women in Japan combined. Other examples where American women commit murder at a rate greater than men would be Singapore, Norway, Italy, Croatia, Switzerland, South Korea, Spain, Hong King, and Slovenia.

You can further expand this to a lot of other countries. If you took the female offender murder rate of American women and the male offender murder rate of the following countries, you would find a very small difference: Germany, Australia, Iceland, Ireland, Taiwan, Portugal, New Zealand, and Poland.

And this is just from the data that we have available. Many murders are committed by unknown assailants.

So really, when American feminists generalize men across the world as having violent tendencies, it really makes me wonder: how would they feel to find out that statistically, they're more murderous than men from many different countries? Are they in danger, or are they the danger?
