Boys are conditioned not to ask for help, to not express their emotions

Boys learn from a young age that no-one cares. Why bother speaking up when you know no-one will listen?

Tyler’s mom, Hedstrom-Pelger, said the symptoms he exhibited — withdrawal, irritability, a new circle of friends — were “not things I would’ve connected with depression and anxiety until after I learned more.”

In other words, she was socially conditioned to have a specific idea of what depression is, so, naturally, it was actually boys that were conditioned to not align to this idea.

Because society has long implied that boys and men should be strong and unemotional, many “guys keep things to themselves because they can’t find any other outlet.”

If only there was some kind of... men's social group... that they could partake in.

Another reason boys’ suicide rates are higher than girls’ may be because males are generally more impulsive than females, particularly as adolescents.

“Boys tend to mature and develop at a slower rate than girls,” said Freedenthal.

Boys also tend to choose more violent and lethal methods of suicide than girls do. Removing firearms from your home can dramatically reduce suicide risk.

Ah, of course, it's the gun's fault! That must be why there's no disparity in the UK where we don't have ready access to firearms and the number of firearm-related suicides are incredibly small.
