46m here and increasingly considering moving abroad to find companionship (maybe in 2-3 yrs). My online dating game is just awful in the US (I’m a 5’5” balding Cambodian guy), and family have told me to move back to Cambodia or anywhere in Southeast Asia since my odds would be better.

I’m admittedly lonely, but I don’t plan on seriously dating again until I get my stuff right. Having said that, thanks to the feedback on this forum, I am charting a 5-15 yr roadmap so that I have direction in my life. I’ve been struggling with depression since my ex/wife cheated on me 2 yrs ago to the DAY!

Plan is to move cities in the next three months, grind at a new job, work part-time (Uber, cook, bartend) on the weekends to take my mind off being alone.

Then in 3 yrs, the day I turn 50, move to Southeast Asia.

(I lost my home, but my wife basically can’t touch my military retirement / disability), so I can probably find some side hustles and live modestly in a place like Phnom Penh. Maybe do something in tourism or e-commerce as a side hustle?

Here’s the thing, women are still pretty traditional in my home country and do eventually want to get “married”. If i marry a woman in Cambodia and never move back to the US permanently (or at least until I’m 75 or have a serious medical condition), will she be able to get alimony if she divorces me? Would I be on the hook for child support? (I know having kids at 50 sounds crazy, but in Cambodia, it’s easy and cheap to find help that help raise your kids.)

Would love to hear from anyone with similar experiences marrying someone from abroad and staying abroad (Philippines, Thailand, Mexico). Or is this just a pipe dream and the risk the same / worse?

Thanks fellas. Two year anniversary of breakup is super painful, esp when you haven’t fully moved on in terms of mental health, meeting someone new, etc.
