In Adam Leonas' book 'The Empress is Naked', page 119, he quotes Tom Golden, a social worker, who wrote about his experiences in 'The Invisible Blue Taboo.'

"In my years of working with couples in therapy, I have very rarely seen a woman who listened to the emotional pain of her male partner. Women often claim they want a man in touch with his feelings - but, if you scratch and sniff, you find this means he should be in touch with HER feelings. Give her the chance, in therapy, to listen to his pain, and what I have repeatedly seen is that she recoils."

This is why men do not open up. It is people men and women alike who regularly belittle men who do open up.

I have a BS in psychology and the general atmosphere of distain against men in most courses was tangible, at least pre-2015. The most distressing experience I had in pursuit of my degree was in a developmental psychology course. Meaning, a course about children growing up and how their brains change over time during childhood development.

The amount of anti-male, anti-boy, rhetoric in that course was obscene. Weekly narratives in the lectures about how boys develop slower, boys don’t understand social norms, boys are more physical and violent and prone to violence or physicality, how girls are respectful and quiet, girls are better at learning basically any topic, girls are better readers, how boys are disruptive not only to the learning environment but to the social atmosphere of their peers in recreational moments.

It was the inciting moment that started me down the path of investigating the institutional discrimination against boys in education.

Therapy and psychology are not a “safe space” for men. If you need a therapist, you need to devote hours of time into investigating the backgrounds of therapists you are interested in. More often than not, male therapist is going to be more beneficial for a man, but it is by no means a guarantee. Sometimes the men are even more passionate about feminism than the women. You really have to research and not be afraid to fire your therapist at any moment.
