Do you mean a Guardian Ad Litem (GAL)? That's a lawyer who's SUPPOSED to represent the interests of the children when there is a dispute over custody or visitation.

If that's the case, your mileage will definitely vary. Not all GALs truly have the kids' best interest at heart.

Is there something else? Does the kid have any special needs? Or accused of a crime? That would be different than a GAL.

I'd like to know too. I hired a GAL for my kids but it hasn't happened it. I'm not sure what the delay is. I'm nervous about it.
