Anytime I'm debating cold approach with anyone, I typically try to establish certain facts (importance of certain genetic features for attraction, halo/horn effect, and hypergamy etc) before even going over the evidence for cold approach itself.

Because if the blackpill is true, then our confidence level of cold approach working for any man who isn't desired by women to begin with is very low. This is why I try to flesh out exactly how much of the blackpill someone affirms (which many do to some extent, especially redpillers) before talking about cold approach because the blackpill itself counts against the idea of cold approach being a viable strategy for average or below average men.

Most of the evidence presented in favor of cold approach is anecdotal as you mentioned, many of which come from dating coaches who have a financial incentive to push the strategy in the first place to get guys to buy their courses and so on. The results from these "in field" approaches that we see from these dating coaches would actually be expected if the blackpill were true because we know alot of women would briefly converse with an unattractive man who approached them out of politeness and give them their number (or a fake number) as a safe exit strategy. What the dating coaches never show is what's done with those numbers after the interaction.

All in all, the evidence presented in support of cold approach is incredibly weak and mostly boils down to hearsay.
