What useless bickering itt lol. Couldn’t even read the exchange linked because my geriatric cracked phone gave up and Reddit crashed. As far as iq is concerned/to address a couple comments i saw itt, it is the best measure of intelligence we have and correlates better than any one metric iirc with academic ability and future income, but it’s obv not perfect. U can also have instances where someone has wild disparities between sub tests making the fsiq useless. Cant rlly assess what someone’s score is beyond maybe over/under avg but even then there r issues with this like subtest disparities, context of a conversation(only real way is to.. well, sit down for a psychometric test. I’m sure some features of a person have decent correlation so in casual settings a lot of ppl will use career or academic achievements as rough proxies). Most academics agree that scores stabilize around age 7. Once u hit 12 or so, correlation with adult iq is over .97 I think(back when I was a kid in elementary school, they would bring in a psychometrician and test kids at this age for the gifted class/program where if u score over a certain threshold, usually in the 120s or 130s, u pass). Afaik past these ages it can’t rlly be raised, onlt lowered through things like head trauma, infections, autoimmune disorders, neurodegen, hell there’s even aseptic meningitis and encephalitis. Heritability is close to 70 percent but varies for subtests(I didn’t read past the abstract so can’t speak to how the study was conducted but one twin study found that it was p low for fsiq and verbal but highest, upper 60s, for nonverbal and non numerical, like matrices).
