Good thing I've never given that anecdote before. I do know an Indian guy, though, but he's not part of this story.
What you are referring to is called a strawman. A useful tool to characterize vast groups of people as simple and only having one viewpoint. As we both know, black and white thinking is its own fallacy, but that's certainly not stopping you.
