I never really bought the “mentality insane” legal defense. If you insane enough to get away with murder, then you need to be locked in a straight jacket.

Also on a random note, the first guy to successfully plead insanity lived kinda a crazy life. His name was Dan Sickles. He was a politician, civil war general (who almost lost Gettysburg for the union), and has his leg in the Smithsonian.

To be honest, women have been "let off the chain" since about the 1970s. They've been allowed to explore all of their primal insanity in full view and almost without consequence. This is what we are all now dealing with. It's like when you're in a supermarket and there's a kid throwing a screaming fit because mommy won't buy him the candy/toy. Mommy won't "properly discipline" him because she'll get arrested. Sometimes discipline is a mercy, not an abuse. In fact without it (fatherless upbringing I'm looking at you) you get looting, whoring, and all the other slovenly behavior that were seeing today. Society at large used to have rules. They're all gone, and we're seeing spoiled brats get away with behavior that would've been unthinkable 30 years ago. Rant over...

During the trial, the defense argued Sydney suffered from schizophrenia and therefore could not be held accountable for the murder.

Ah yes, because the fact that its a woman on trial and thus more likely to receive a more lenient sentence.. they have to try to further mitigate by claiming "Mental issues"

Now, i'm glad that in this case it was ruled out but still the nerve to even try is pretty sickening to be honest...

And if she is that "Mentally unstable / unwell" well then that should be further evidence that she needs to be removed from society so that she doesn't pose a risk to anyone else..

It'll be interesting to see what sentence she gets but given our gynocentric justice system.. I expect it to be faaaar less than what a man would get in this situation..

So apparently she got booted out of college and then had to be told several times after that to actually leave the dorms. Dumb thing is that, based on scanning their student handbook, all she needed to do was sit out a term and then talk to the dean of students to get reinstated on probation. So I guess it was more about maintaining an image with her mom?

So a man supposedly, use drug to make a woman unconscious. She doesn't have permanent damage. She is his gf (or ex gf). They regularly have sex. She's not pregnant, not getting STD, it could be a misunderstanding, 25 years to life.

We don't even know what drugs he uses? What about if you have a gf and wants to spice up sex life? What about if your gf drug you to spice up sex life? What about if you both use drug or alcohol and have sex? That's life sentence?

Some women murder her own mom, that's 15 years to life?
