Scheme will give "domestic abuse" victims £1,000 to escape relationships. "...to pay for essentials that WOMEN need" cos "...ending violence against WOMEN is a key priority" Er, biased & sexist much?!!

...then the small print says its basically for WOMEN!!

AND all it will do is incentivize women to tell MORE lies for money!

AND-What kind of world do women live in where they cant just get a fucking JOB, like MEN have to??!!

Leaving a relationship with an abusive partner is dangerous and difficult, and financial dependence on the abuser is often the biggest barrier.

Men have the same relationship with our employers but nobody is rushing to give us an extra thousand pounds to switch jobs when the boss treats us like shit.

Marsha Scott, the chief executive of Scottish Women’s Aid, said: “Survivors have told us for decades that the biggest problems they face in extricating themselves from abusers is the danger of retaliation, their lack of financial independence and the fear of destitution.

Decades later and they still don't understand how jobs work, how saving works, or how adult independence works.

We need to address all the reasons that abuse victims can't leave.

This is one.

(I hope it's applied to all genders and thats just them slipping into the common gendered language around abuse. (but I won't be surprised if it's not.))

It's assumed women who aren't working have a harder time leaving because of money, but being the one earning money doesn't mean you control it. Also, having a stable job, means that there's somewhere your dangerous ex can find you.

Even high earning men might need this.

But there's other reasons people don't leave.

I'm guessing concern for kids is what keeps most people in abusive relationships. And men more than women since there are shelters for women with kids, and courts favouring them.

I had to pay to escape my abusive ex wife. Would have been great to get paid to escape her. But I'll settle for simply not having to pay alimony.
