So last week, I got notice that our entire company is shutting down, and today is my last day. It was incredibly bittersweet having that last call with all of my coworkers knowing that we all put in our best. This is tough on me since I went through a lay off in January, but managed to find this new job in April, but lost it today since the company ran out of funding for the next year. The bright side is that I can take some time to relax, prep for my new role, and focus on school (I am in school full time now too).
My husband got laid off in July, and has been looking for a job since then. This job market has been extremely tough given the current economic climate.
We've been married for 2 years now, and both pay into a mortgage for a home. When he was working, he was covering a majority of the bills. Now, everything is split 50/50.
Now for the dilemma..
I honestly don't know how long he's actually spending for a new role. We agreed that when he finds his new job, he will be the one that starts to take care of a majority of the household expenses so that I can focus on finishing school. It just feels like looking for a new job is not his top priority now. He's burning through his savings, and every time I walk into his office, he's playing video games. I don't know how to ask him what he's doing, because every time I bring it up, it feels like I am nagging him or constantly on him. I stopped asking him what he's been doing all day 2 months ago.
I really have no idea what to do. I understand that the tech market right now is atrocious, but it also feels like he's not putting in as much time or effort on his job search as I am, or I did after my first lay off this year. He keeps talking about going on vacations, and things we can do once he lands a new role, but it just is frustrating hearing all of that when I don't see anything else happening.
A part of me wants to know if there's anything I can do, but a part of me also knows that the motivation needs to come from within him. Any advice?
