Not sure if the title is coherent, but alright allow me to go into proper detail here

I feel like FOMO & YOLO attitudes play a role here

Modern society is very contradictory, it has become very formulaic and yet at the same time the abundance of life outlets has never been greater in terms of our vices, we have video games, we have movies, we greater options in music choices compared to 500 years ago, we have shopping and lifestyle centers(although those are facing a bit of resistance with the ongoing e commerce surge but point still stands), we probably have more hobbies to express ourselves more than ever from extreme sports to the arts to literature to theater to video games of course, so on and so forth

And yet we take this often so per granted

So settling down is probably not people's most option nowadays given how deep the hedonism treadmill runs within our society

Why would John want to settle down with Sarah when they both probably got more important things in life to experience, like partying, going to a concert, or going to see a movie?

This is also why vanilla relationships have become more mocked in recent times and people have been glorifying more BSDM stuff

The hedonism revolution of the 21st century as one would call it, has greatly impacted dating more than what one wants to admit

In a culture where having fun & escaping it out are more important priorities, traditional heterosexual relationship values are more prone to facing more resistance

This is also why dating for fun has become people's first step, once they get past a dating phase then we get a settling phase like most millenials, but even the terms boyfriend and girlfriend are becoming more common because serial monogamy and long term commitment are becoming increasingly boring to the general public, God forbid stability and peace become important virtues in people's relationships again

Everyone's appearantly got more important priorities than their dating lives including gym, social media, going to concerts, sporting events, etc

But yet funny for how much we virtue signal about YOLO and FOMO as a society I noticed people are also starting to live less mindfully as a whole as everyone tries to move on from the next dopamine hit to the other

Anyways
