I'm confused because I heard from pickup artists that you need to be un-apologetic, but on the other hand I often hear people say "you should tell her you're sorry". So which is it? I'm watching Better Call Saul right now, and in S04E08 there is this woman who figured out his girlfriend is angry because he decided to spend the night in his office. And without even knowing the specifics of Saul's situation, she tells him "you should tell her you're sorry. Then, you say sorry again. Whatever she tells you, just say sorry". I heard it makes you / she will consider you weak if you do so, though (it kinda confirms to her you made a mistake or are thus prone to make mistakes?)... Not going into specifics of a situation, is it really good advice? I keep hearing conflicting things about this.
EDIT: allow me to be more specific here with a crappy situation from personal experience :
I went in vacation for a week with some work colleagues in a hotel. After drinking in the first part of the night with a few people who went to bed rather early, I wanted to continue partying. That's when I heard a few people gather in a room above mine (and I didn't know yet that some of these people didn't want to hang around me) so I decided to continue partying with them. I promptly headed there. The door of a room was opened and I saw them in that room so I entered. Unfortunately, even though they tried to stay civil, I quickly realized a couple people didn't want me in there. So I left, and I was civil the whole time too. The next day, I heard from one guy from that bunch that the room belonged to a girl (that I was interested in) and that she was upset because I came in her room uninvited. Like, she was scared I would rape her or something which is incredibly ridiculous for a gazillion of reasons (for the main one : I'm not the kind to assault anyone). Anyways, that guy seemed quite friendly and told me I should apologize to her. I didn't really agree because I did nothing wrong, I just wanted to continue partying with all of them and wasn't aware it was her room. But later that day, at night, I came face to face with her and I ultimately followed that guy's advice and apologized (and I also explained to her why I went in there in the first place).
To this day, I can't shake the feeling apologizing was a wrong move. I feel like all guys I've known always gave me bad advice or would even talk shit about me when I'm not there, as if they wanted to take down some dangerous competitor (which is kinda hilarious since I'm a "forever-alone" kind of guy so I don't need to drown more than I already do). *I* would never do such things to other guys, that's for sure, because I put myself in their shoes. And yeah, I was a bit older than them and wasn't really part of the group and you don't want to be THAT guy who would like to get into a group... Those were completely wasted vacations on my end because even though I hanged around a few nice people that week, I feel like I didn't make any real friend, but that's my life story (and many other guys' life story I'm sure, haha) for you. It's been years since I stopped trying to make friends or get a cute girlfriend. But like some extraterrestrial studying humans (I might have Asperger but I'm not sure), I'm still curious if apologizing is right in general, hence this question. I really don't think the simple answer of "apologize if you fucked up" is always right, for the reason I posted above : it could make you appear as weak / it kinda confirms to people you made a mistake and are thus prone to make mistakes. It's psychological. My question is more about women psyche : won't they lose respect for a man who is apologetic? I think that deep down people have no respect for apologetic people, men or women.
