So there are 2 main reasons why I find approaching girls in bars/pubs hard.

The main one : Usually they are in a group, and starting to talk to the girl, or with the whole group ( as it is advised) would put me in a situation when the whole group will be looking at me, while I try to find something interesting to say. And usually, while planning what to do, I can't find a topic I can discuss with them since I don't know them!

If I go for the approach wikihow is recommending , and I quote For example, say something like "Hi ladies, my name is Josh, how’s your night going?" I am also not very confident it would work. Why a stranger would care how is the night going for other strangers? And what if they are just not into talking with strangers and would just stare at me making the whole situation cringe ?

The secondary one : Usually my group of friends is not into picking up. This also turns me off regarding approaching. But the main problem here is the fact that if I am going to talk more to a group , if everything goes well, I'll have to sit at the table with that group a period, leaving my group of friends ( which is made out of 2-3 persons) alone, which I find mean and impolite.

How should i get over the 2 reasons , and start trying more? Because these reasons don't even let me start approaching.

I find it easier to approach at the grocery store/ down the street because usually we are not supposed to socialize so much. I can be direct and ask for her number. But since I am at a bar ,people are expecting to socialize, and that's where the problem comes.
