Sex appeal for celebrities is different than attraction in normal relationships. Harry Style and Johnny Depp both have fame, money, AND they have a reputation of sexual deviance/adventurousness. The combination of those three factors makes men like those have broad sex appeal even if they don’t fit a woman’s normal type.

It’s called masculinity. Basically he has physical traits that are mostly typical of men, and that’s what makes them attractive. It could be the jawline, the tone of voice, the beard, the muscles, the dressing style,… etc

Hm, I have heard many times I am not their type but I 'ooze sex' in some way while making them feel comfortable and not doing anything.

From my experience I am quick witted, I am always able to one-up a joke if she tests me and shock her. I am relaxed. And I think about sex while talking to them, I feel the energy in me, a thing I cannot really control. I think this subcommunicates through my body language, while I am not out to 'score' the girl or something or doing creepy stuff. I am also very athletic. (I am by all means no chad, just a normal good looking man).

confidence, status, fashion, grooming, charm, money, wit, intelligence... there are many elements. your friend is probably just keyed up on the status and reputation tho.
