I approached someone that was just chilling sitting down near a table. They were sitting in a really relaxed/comfy position so I opened with "you look super comfy there" she made eye contact and I continued with "just chilling like" and I imitated her posture and ended with a slight smile.

But she didnt really say anything. Just made eye contact with a slight smile that looked half awkward but not fully. If she didnt look my way i would have just left at that point. Waited like 2 secs and asked her "what are you up to, just studying?" Again she kept eye contact but didn't respond. Again because she was looking at me I didn't leave and tried to continue.

I think she found it awkward/didn't know how to react to a dude approaching her. I thought maybe my open was an issue but I feel like with her no matter how I opened it would be the same.

I'm wondering in the future how should I react to that sort of awkward energy/response coming from her.

Is it a good idea to playfully point it out? I was thinking of saying something like this after I asked my question.

"You look confused" pause for response. "Like who's this guy and why is he talking to me" pause "i can answer both for you" "im name, whats you're name". I would probably only ask for her name here if it looks like she's interacting more (ex: laughing/smiling or at least keeping eye contact). "I just thought you looked cute so I wanted to meet you". All done with a playful/teasing, confident atmosphere.

What do you think about doing something like that? Or any other ways of tackling it. In my head pointing out the oddness of the scenario should make it better but I haven't really field tested this.
