I’m considering doing some bar tending in the future just to improve my social skills - is it good? Any advice?

Do it. It will be an adventure. Of course, we can not now, how the experience actually will turn out to be. It depends on so many factors. Quit when it becomes frustrating.

Pros:

Exclusive insights in dynamics of nightlife
Desensitisation regarding odd behaviour of others
Learning to interact with all kinds of people
becoming people-wise

Cons:

Danger of drinking too much
ruining your sleep pattern (for me the biggest con)
only fraction of the interactions will be sober and have depth, or be interesting
Danger of ruining your ears (loud music)

Alternative (side) jobs to gain social skills:

Waiter in a cafe
reception in a hotel
shop assistant
promotion

Bartending is the single best job to have to meet people. You will have a couple hundred interactions a night, and will have no time to get in your head about talking to people. It is the truest trial by fire for social skills.
