It’s really low percentage, game even worse than online dating.
You have to remember attractive women have guys tying to get into their dms all the time so whatever lame ass compliment or deep question you shoot is unlikely to land.
The only way it works is if you build an attractive online presence. Doing fun things. Pictures in social groups. Out with other women. Etc. then if she starts to like or comment on your pictures you can go from there.
I talked to a friend with lots of followers and she said it doesn’t matter what a guy in her dms says. If she finds him attractive or interesting she will consider it but she has plenty of men in her day to day life that her dms are just a place for validation
That’s why we focus on approach on this sub. Women don’t take DM men seriously for the most part

sliding in a DMs requires a certain finesse. try getting comfortable getting matches and talking to girls on dating apps (Tinder).
the mindset to have is: "every girl you match and talk with serves as practice to your game"
how do you talk to these girls? simple. go with these two rules.

Firstly, know that unless you are super handsome with a great profile, your odds are like 1 in 10,000
However, you're best bet is to follow her first. Like 1 pic (2 max). If she hasn't followed you back after a while, forget it. She's not interested.
If she has followed you back (and ideally liked 1 of your pics) then reply to one of her stories.
If she replies, you can start to build a convo from there
