I use the phrase downfall loosely here, its not a handicap and I'm not embarrassed. Basically for a few years I was going through a bad time and went through a period of self harm. I have lots of visible scars on my arm and its very obvious what they're from as its not just one or two.

I was talking to a girl in a club the other night and we were both sober so having a genuinely good conversation, but then she asked about my arms, which I dont mind because its a fair enough question and I'm comfortable talking about it. The problem is once you're on a topic as serious and possibly uncomfortable as that, it makes it very difficult to bring it back around to a topic if conversation where I could ask for her number for example.

How would you recommend avoiding this topic of conversation or changing it quickly? I've tried "oh I don't really want to talk about it" but that made it awkward and killed conversation all together.
