Honestly just approach men, I think it's mostly the same for men and women. I had a woman approach me for the first time at work the other week and we had a great few dates. Most men will appreciate it I think, it's nice to have a woman come up to you instead of you going up to them for a change.

Find a hobby you like, try meetup. Don't pick something that'll be mostly women. No scrapbooking or sewing. But do pick something you find interesting. But at some point you will have to push through that shyness just a bit. You can do it.

To work on eye-contact: engage the people you encounter in the service-industry (waiters, drivers, shop-workers etc) with a bright smile, make them like you :D Seek good eye-contact and talk to the person, not at the person. I started doing this five years ago and i found it really helped my approach new people in good way and made me confident about doing just that, approaching new people and engage them on a bright and positive note. If you are more a Tyler Durden kind of person, try getting away with something embarrasing in public. Tell the best looking guy you are gonna see that day that he has a spot of ketchup on his pants without stopping as you walk by. Maybe even try to get something for free, that you would normally pay for. Try to take it as far as you can without doing something illegal and/or insane.

Hey! I would say that it's similar to guys approaching girls - I just make normal conversation first with guys about something that's happening that we can both talk about e.g. the bus being late... that's just an opener. Eye contact and smiling is good - maybe try it out on someone you don't fancy at first just to see? Then if there's a convo maybe ask to have a coffee or something instead of straight out saying you think they're cute. I did that a couple of times and it worked out ok. I agree, they'll appreciate that it takes balls (not literally) to approach...

Talk to the guys wherever you go. Talk to them about stuff you like. Complements are fine icebreakers. Be forward and be honest with your intentions, if you'd like a date, say so. If you'd just like someone to go hiking with or whatever, say so.

Well, a guy should get SOME idea that you're keen if you smile, say hi, maybe even comment on something about his appearance like his hair or shirt. Simply because this never happens to most guys they'll realise something is going on. Simply being friendly is enough of a signal 'hey, its ok to keep talking to me'. So if they're attracted to you, thats how you give them the invitation to pick up.
