What is outcome independence? Being secure in yourself, independent of what happens to you. That is, having a certain amount of happiness, positive outlook, and enjoyment -- no matter what.
This is somewhat spiritual in its origin. It comes from realizing that there's no such thing as "absolute negative"; the lowest absolute is "absolute zero". Therefore, you should be grateful, and cherish life, even for its painful moments.
This is actually scientifically possible. You can be happy as a paraplegic -- and you can be unhappy as a billionaire. Your happiness is independent of these material changes -- scientific studies have shown this. So when we say, "be outcome independent", we're not bullshitting around. It's a possible path.
If you feel insecure, women cannot make you happy. "Game" cannot make you happy. Drugs, emotions, and sex cannot make you happy. No outcome can make you happy.
Once you realize the separation between happiness and what happens to you, you will begin to have good inner game. When people give you a hard time, you won't be affected. When a girl leaves you, you won't be devastated. You will continue to act as a free man, and live the best life you can, to the best of your ability. You are a man. You do not need the world to be "nice" to you. You continue performing at your best regardless of what happens -- you don't mope or get angry in reaction to bad news. That is courage. That is alpha. That is attractive.
So how can one be outcome independent, and yet still work so hard on something? Isn't learning Game (or anything goal-oriented) outcome-dependent by definition?
You do not depend on Game for happiness, any more than you depend on a game of chess to make you happy. Game is simply something interesting presented to you by life, and you choose to master it. You work on Game because it is interesting to you, or it is fun to you. That is all. In fact, with good "inner game", you don't have to work on gaming women if there are more interesting uses of your time -- you can make your own decisions, and if it means pursuing another passion at the cost of sucking at picking up women, that is still good "inner game". It doesn't matter if the path is easy or hard, if it is painful or pleasurable, or what other people think of it. Your happiness does not depend on these things. There is no emotional neediness.
This is what it means to be self-validated, to not be approval-seeking. Your confidence arises not from your external success and other people's approval, but from knowing that you have done your best and will continue doing your best. You never anxiously wait on the girl's response because you've already made your best move; you don't really care how she responds, except to learn from it. Other people can't grade you; only you can grade yourself, and only you know who you are, how well you've done, and what your inner score is.
The funny thing is, when you become outcome independent -- when you don't care about what other people think, when you don't care about manipulating the outcome to your favor -- the outcomes tend to turn out in your favor. When you don't care if people like you, they like you more. Because you're not busy lusting after popularity, you're busy doing good things. That's the causal source of all outcomes. The rest of it -- success or failure -- is just a superficial result that derives from that.
How does one achieve good "inner game"? Action. By having lots of life experience, and pushing yourself, leaning into stress, pain, and rejection (as Tyler Durden recommends), so you learn that these things don't affect you. So if you're not doing anything else, going out regularly can help you acquire life experiences that will help you develop good inner game.
Other suggestions: try meditation; try pursuing your passions; try working out; try new hobbies; try getting a job. Only life experience can make you better -- when you see it for yourself.
With time, your emotional muscles become stronger, and you will become habitually secure in yourself. And you won't depend on events in the world to make you happy. You will be independent of how friendly your environment is to you. You will even be independent of how you feel -- that is, you will continue doing good actions, even if you feel like shit, and we call that state independence.
The real reason for outcome independence isn't getting girls. It's that it gives you the freedom to live with full intent.
