Tips for guys who aren't that funny when approaching?

You're getting bad advice. People often say this because they recall laughing/making their SO laugh when they first met. Odds are they weren't making anyone else laugh with whatever they were talking about.

Don't try to be funny. Be interesting. If she is interested in you, she will laugh at some lame pun you throw out or some stupid story with a strange occurance you tell. If you try too hard to be funny, you will come off as nothing more than some dude with jokes, and she won't see any reason to take interest in you as a person.

Girls laughing at some stupid joke you make is a sign of her interest in you. If you work hard enough to make anyone laugh, you lose that as an indicator and just become a clown for other peoples amusement. Nobody respects clowns.

If you're not funny, then don't try to be funny.

Don't give her a fucking interview. That's boring as fuck.

Use observations, slight negging, tell a story, do/say off the wall shit. Be memorable.

Then get the number and fuck off. Limiting your time exposure curtails the dreaded awkward silence.

"Hey, I gotta go, but I just had to meet you. Gimme your number so we can continue this conversation when I'm not running my ass off."

Be self amused. Humor is your best approach. You're not funny because you're too uptight.

Making a joke, a funny statement etc are good things to break the ice but if you force it, it's probably gonna be shit.

I think your problem is leading the conversation, making it sexual, showing intent.

You can make the conversation sexual at any moment. "Bla bla boring fucking conversation bla bla hey you know what I'm starting to like you". Don't try to make smooth transition from friendly conversation to sexual one. Just do it, she wants you to.

Also it's a good thing to have some canned openers, push-pull lines, teases in your toolbox but again don't force it if you can't pull it.

I'm not the "haha that joke is funny" type of funny and I know that. I'm the blunt, crude humor type that usually results in the laughs from being "omg did he actually just say that." I know what I'm good at and use it. Do the same.
