Most professional PUA's who do daygame seem to open very directly, in a similar way to what the OP plans to do, in fairness, though?
Pretty much every open from every PUA udring daygame is basically ''Hi. I just noticed you from over there and thought you looked gorgeous wanted to meet you!''

Walk up to her, smile, make eye contact and just say "hey, I've seen you a few times in [name of class]...whats your name?"
Talk briefly about the class, but ask her how she liked it and what she thought about it.
Then just find something interesting about her and ask her about it. Something she is holding, wearing, or doing.
Say "Hey I fucking love that jacket...where did you get it?" or
"hey, i fucking love that hair color, what do you call it? Do you dye it yourself, do you ever go blond?"
Ask her about her.

I like to see compliments as a way of flirting, if you're not going to flirt with her then don't complement her. Now I'm not saying you shouldn't complement people, but I'm saying that when it's a possible woman that you personally like or feel attracted to a complement usually means that she is meeting your standards. Be unique about the compliment, try to make yourself stick out from other people. Calling a woman beautiful is pretty generic, and even if she isn't beautiful she might get that from other people. I like to usually start off by saying that I like their outfit, or something unique like hair or shoes. It shows that you pay attention to detail, and you're taking an interest on her likes.

Thanks for your reply. That makes a lot of sense actually. This was meant to be more of a challenge for me to get out and talk to girl I think is cute. There is no point in pursuing anything with her, since I'm moving away. But I thought that sort of going up and compliment a girl that I think is cute would be huge steps for me. As an introvert, I've never done something like this.

That is absolutely the correct way to look at it, especially to dissipate your approach anxiety. Who's to say this girl won't be the coolest girl you've ever met regardless of whether you sleep with her or not? The worst thing that can possibly happen is that you're just another guy that told her she's beautiful. Definite props to you for taking this as a challenge. After all it is GAME ;)
